The Boulder Swing Collective

640 675 City Star Brewing

Swing music has taken over my life in the past few years! While my professional musical life has a good amount of swing in it, I still want more. In the past three years, I’ve helped cultivate a pretty happening little swing scene here in Boulder. It started for me by teaming up with Kyle Ussery, with whom I started a weekly swing night at the No Name Bar on the Hill in Boulder. From there, we met some some young cats who are like-minded about swing. We play the old-time stuff, which I consider separate from jazz.  Together we call ourselves the Boulder Swing Collective.

Salted Pretzel Ale

768 1024 City Star Brewing

Who’s ready for a fresh new beer?! We’re tapping our Salted Pretzel Ale today at noon. This malt forward amber ale has a strong toasty aroma with a biscuit, caramel flavor and finishes with a hint of lingering salt. It drinks like an English Mild with a bowl of pretzels all rolled into one sip!

Winter Solstice Party

640 675 City Star Brewing

This December 21st, the darkest day of the year, we celebrate the Winter Solstice at City Star Brewing with the release of our darkest beer of the year. Widow Maker is a colossal Imperial Stout, to be released on draft and in bottles alongside coconut and coffee decaf variants. This nod to the Winter Solstice boasts a big, bold and complex flavor profile. Smooth, rich and ready to sip and savor. Not for the faint hearted.

Happenings of this evening include free live music, henna tattoos, night sky telescope viewing with the Little Thompson Observatory, flower crowns, photo booth by Phobia Entertainment, Cirque Kitchen food truck, tarot card readings with Mary D’Agostino, and there will be a limited amount of commemorative glassware available.

The Solstice is a celebration of the return of the Light. It is indeed the twenty four hour period when the day-time or light is shortest and the night is longest, but the very next day is when the daytime starts to become longer! This brings hope and light for better things to come, along with our dreams, and hopes for love and all good things “coming to light”. Bringing out, love, inspiration and joy are always the basis of my readings, with positive insights, blessings and wisdom thrown in for good measure.

We look forward to hosting this second annual event and celebrating the return of the light with good friends, great beer and fun activities. Festivities begin at 6pm with free entry in our downtown Berthoud taproom.

Logan Thomas

960 960 City Star Brewing

Logan Thomas is a singer-songwriter from Savannah, Georgia. Often compared to a young John Mayer, his music combines catchy melodies with soulful guitar playing. Logan’s goal as an artist is to merge the authenticity of blues and soul music with today’s modern production techniques. As a lover of all genres, the most important thing to him is that his music inspires people.

Logan’s life has revolved around music since the young age of 12 years old. When he walked into his first guitar lesson, he was asked why he wanted to learn guitar – Logan’s response? “I want to be on the cover of a magazine!” While his attitude towards music has evolved since those early years, Logan has retained his passion for creating music that people love.

After spending his teenage years playing in various bands, Logan realized that songwriting was his true passion. He began performing as a solo artist in 2018, playing more than 50 shows across the southeast while honing his abilities as a songwriter and a performer. Logan is currently based in northern Colorado, performing regularly in the area while working on recording new music.

His plans for the future include a debut EP to be released in October, as well as a nationwide tour to support the EP. Logan’s dedication to music is lifelong, so his career is only just beginning. With passion and drive matched by few others, Logan Thomas is a young artist worth paying attention to.

A new City Star beer hits the taps this weekend. Bet Yer Boots Brut is a Brut IPA, a champagne-like beer with delicious hop flavor, low bitterness and an extremely dry finish. Wood Belly

Wood Belly Bluegrass Band

640 675 City Star Brewing

Wood Belly blends traditional bluegrass with modern songwriting and whether you’re spinning your partner around or hanging on every word, the result is the same. You’re left smiling and wanting more. 2018 has been an exciting year as the group released their debut album, “Solid Ground” and won the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Festival band competition.

Wood Belly was born when Chris Weist (Mandolin) met Craig Patterson (Guitar) and Chris Zink (Dobro) at the Rockygrass Festival in 2015. Within a year, they had teamed up with Aaron McCloskey (Banjo) and Taylor Shuck (Bass) and the music immediately fell into place. Since then the band has played at an ever-expanding list of great venues including the Mishawaka amphitheater, the Fox Theater (Boulder), and Cervantes (Denver). Their festival resume includes the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rapidgrass, the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, the Keystone Bluegrass and Beer Festival, The Wyoming State Bluegrass and BBQ festival, Snowygrass, Grapes and Grass, and more.

Greg Schochet

Greg Schochet is a full-time performer, teacher and producer in Boulder, Colorado. Equally adept on guitar and mandolin, he is fluent in number of acoustic and electric styles, including bluegrass, swing, and country.

A veteran of many touring and recording bands, his love of music and traveling has brought him to some of the most acclaimed venues in the country, including A Prairie Home Companion, Red Rocks, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, as well as the Rainforest World Music Festival in Malaysia.

Born and raised in the suburbs of New York city, Greg’s musical youth was framed by his father’s record collection and FM radio of the 70s and 80s. Combined with a deep love for all things traditional, twangy and old-timey, Greg’s musical sensibilities are wide-ranging and versatile.

He is an integral part of Colorado’s thriving roots music scene, and is a sought after instructor, session player, producer and collaborator.

Jeremy Mohney Trio

Jeremy Mohney Swing Trio

640 675 City Star Brewing

Jeremy Mohney is swing, simply put. Nearly 90 years late to the game, he’s still swinging hard for dancers with his band, sax, singing voice and original compositions that all sound straight out of 1939. Each show is fresh and will leave you wondering what’s gonna happen next. All you’re sure of is that it will be solid in the groove.

As entertaining as he sounds, Mohney has proven it countless times. At home in CO at venues like Dazzle or the Mercury Cafe, he kills, as well as on his frequent tours which take him and his band all over the US. He recently came out with two digital albums, “Live at the Mercury Cafe” and “KGNU Air Checks”. They’re both available on all major sites, like iTunes/Apple Music and Spotify. Jeremy’s also starting a podcast which will feature he and his band’s playing, his original compositions, guests to play, sing, make us laugh and more.

Inspired by the home of our brewery, Jeremy composed “The Berthoud Bump”: click to listen.
