Wood Belly is a five piece folkgrass ensemble residing on the front range of the Rockies.
The band first came together during the summer of 2015 while attending Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival. During an after hours picking session, musical companions Chris Weist and Danica Cunningham came across Denver duo, Craig Patterson and Sheena Gruber. The 4 immediately hit it off and traded songs until the sun came up. All parties were committed to keeping the arrangement together post festival and roped Fort Collins’s, Chris Zink, into the mix on dobro for subsequent sessions.
Wood Belly encompasses all that is natural and organic in acoustic folk music. Armed with a vast, ever expanding repertoire of originals and standards, Wood Belly is able to navigate from barn burning bluegrass to old timey waltz’s in a seamless fashion. Strong songwriting coupled with layered harmonies and captivating instrumental work give Wood Belly a fresh and distinct sound that will surely set them apart in the Colorado music scene. Don’t miss your chance to catch this quintet on the road!
